If only I had an XBox. And also the bandwidth for it.

I like how the local cable company is now advertising their service as:

A 16 MBps connection
with a 20GB monthly download cap
"Are you a god?"
"More or less Toblaki. Does that frighten you?"
"I've met gods before. They collect chickens."
"We posess mysterious ways indeed."

I love Netflix, but just for the discs.

Bandwidth caps suck. I'm on a 7mb line but no data usage cap that I've run into. Seriously, I think we streamed almost two dozen movies while everyone was sick. It rocked.

I just find it amusing because if you were to download at the advertised speed you would consume your entire monthly bandwidth cap in three and a half hours.

LOL! Just like "unlimited" cell phone data plans that have a monthly cap or charge you an insane amount for your data over the cap.

Most of the time from what I have seen personally... the providers usually give a pretty huge leeway on the phone usage. The place they really ding you is on the connection cards. Those 5gb caps are soft (ie once you exceed the limit you just keep on going) but they bill you per MB and it adds up FAST.

I don't know how I'd handle a bandwidth cap. Some months it'd be fine, but when a new OS drops, I could eat that up in the x86 and x64 builds.

Does Microsoft still allow people to download the "stand-alone" patches that don't require an active internet connection back to the mothership?

Not sure Mike, I know the old MS site you may be referring to was dismantled long ago as I recall. I used to love that when I was consulting because I just archived all the patches on a cd to take to client locations that had no, or very slow, Internet access.
